Görlitzer Park is the largest park in Kreuzberg. It is 14 acres in size. It was created in the late 1980s and early 1990s after the demolition of the old train station Görlitzer Bahnhof. Görlitzer Park isn`t called Görlitzer Park at all. The locals call it “Görli”.
There you can find an indoor swimming pool, a children’s farm, football fields, barbecue places, a panoramic mountain, a lake and bar/club “Edelweis”. You can bump into Turkish-born families, punks and students, musicians out for a multicultural exchange and new residents from all corners of the world. Everybody here wants a barbecue.
The “Görli”park is also famous for it’s drug trade by migrants and the police action against them. The Roma people from Romania live under the open sky and collect empty bottles for their survival. The big crowd leaves a lot of garbage behind, which makes the park less attractive.
